Wedding Day Hair & Makeup Fees You Might Not Expect
Wedding hair and makeup pricing can look pretty straightforward at first: bridal services, wedding party services, travelโand done. But wedding-day logistics have a way of adding a few expenses that couples don't always think about when they first book.
They aren't necessarily hidden fees. In most cases, they're tied to decisions like where you're getting ready, what time everyone needs to be finished, how far your artists are traveling, or whether the beauty team has to change locations.
Here are the ones worth knowing about before your wedding day.
-
If you're getting ready at a hotel or venue with paid parking, your beauty team will need somewhere to park too.
This is especially common in cities like Charlotte, Atlanta and Charleston, where hotel valet or garage parking can easily become an added wedding-day expense. And because artists are typically arriving with professional kits, chairs, lighting and other equipment, parking several blocks away isn't always realistic.
One question we hear often: Can the artists just ride together?
Usually, no. Our artists live throughout the city and surrounding areas and travel independently to weddings. If your venue or hotel charges for vendor parking, it's best to plan for parking for each artist coming on-site.
A quick tip: ask your hotel whether vendor parking can be validated. Some properties will accommodate it, especially when you have a room block.
-
This one technically isn't a beauty fee, but it can directly affect your beauty schedule.
Many venues don't allow couples or vendors on-site until a certain time. If hair and makeup needs to begin at 7am but your venue doesn't open the bridal suite until 9am, you'll need another plan.
Sometimes the venue will allow earlier access for an additional fee. Other times, starting at a nearby hotel or rental makes more sense.
At Beauty Asylum, we can also begin services at one location and relocate to the venue later in the morning. Just remember: moving an entire beauty team takes time & additional cost. Artists have to pack their stations, travel, unload and set everything up again.
Building the extra time into the schedule will most likely include morning fees.
-
If your beauty team starts at one location & finishes at another, expect a relocation fee.
You're not simply paying for the drive between locations. You're accounting for the additional time required to break down multiple professional setups, load everything, travel, unload and set up again.
Relocating can absolutely workโwe do it often when it makes sense for the wedding day. It just needs to be built into both the timeline and budget from the beginning. Expect to pay per stylist to relocate, while others do not offer the option to relocate at all.
-
An early photography timeline usually means an early beauty timeline.
At Beauty Asylum, an early morning fee applies when an artist needs to arrive before 8am. The fee is $50 per hour, per stylist, for each hour before 8am.
For example, if 3 artists need to arrive at 7AM, the early fee would be $150 total.
This comes up most often with larger wedding parties, earlier ceremonies and winter weddings when couples want to maximize the limited daylight for photography.
It's also why we spend so much time looking at your ready time, not just your ceremony time. The two can be several hours apart.
-
Travel fees vary quite a bit between beauty companies, so this is one worth asking about before booking.
Some charge by mileage. Others have travel zones or flat destination fees.
At Beauty Asylum, local travel within our included radius is built into the service. Beyond that, travel is calculated based on the additional time our artists spend traveling to and from the wedding location.
For destination weddings, additional expenses such as airfare, lodging and local transportation may also apply.
We break down how travel works in more detail in our Wedding Hair & Makeup Travel Rates guide.
-
This is a small one, but it's still worth knowing.
Credit card processors charge businesses a percentage of each transaction, and some wedding vendors pass that processing cost along when clients choose to pay by card.
If you'd rather avoid the fee, ask whether your vendor offers a fee-free payment method such as ACH or Zelle.
-
This is probably the biggest line item couples forget to account for when comparing beauty quotes.
Some beauty companies leave gratuity entirely up to the client. Others include it automatically.
Beauty Asylum includes 20% gratuity with our services, so you aren't trying to calculate tips or distribute envelopes to individual artists on the wedding morning. No additional gratuity is expected beyond the amount already included.
When you're comparing quotes, check whether gratuity is already included. A proposal that initially looks less expensive can look very different once 20% is added later.
Most unexpected wedding beauty expenses aren't really about hair and makeupโthey're about logistics.
Where are you getting ready? What time do you need to be finished? How many artists are needed? Is everyone working in one location? Is parking provided? How far does the team have to travel?
Those details can change the final cost considerably.
Before signing a contract, ask what's included, what isn't, and which wedding-day changes could create an additional fee later. A good beauty team should be able to explain all of that upfrontโwithout surprises.
