How did Beauty Asylum start?

Owner & artist Jessica Lyness started in the makeup industry in 2007. Before Beauty Asylum became an idea, Jessica’s goal was to work as an independent artist & create a name for herself. During the early years she worked towards building a name in the beauty industry. Jessica worked around the clock to develop a great portfolio & good reputation within the community. By meeting new people & showing off her skill she landed a job with Carolina’s Medical Center as their go-to hair & makeup artist. During this time the medical corporation needed multiple stylists on-board to get numerous people ready for a photo shoot & they relied on her to get the job done. Jessica having been in the industry with multiple connections the light bulb went off to create a team of ladies that would be reliable but also offer quality hair & makeup service. In 2014, Jessica sought out to build a small team to work together for corporate jobs & weddings. Over the years Beauty Asylum grew into a large group of empowered women working to achieve exceptional service & community.

How is Beauty Asylum doing now?

Beauty Asylum progressed quickly in 2015-2019. The company started with five stylists, and by year three, we represented 30+ exceptional bridal artists under our umbrella. During this time, BA operated as a one-person admin show, and we experienced growing pains to keep up. There was a demand from stylists and wedding inquiries as our reputation became known.

Customer service & craftsmanship are always at the forefront of what we do. Based on 60-hour weeks, owner Jessica Kendall decided to increase pricing (yearly) to match the demand for service. In 2021, the company finished the year with 350 weddings at max operational volume. In recent years, Beauty Asylum evolved into a destination bridal team. We travel across the US to destination locations such as California, Arizona, and Oregon. We're super thankful to work with destination wedding planners who work abroad, and we are able to provide destination beauty in France, Italy, + Ireland with some of the world-renowned wedding vendor.
