Destination Beach Wedding | Wild Dunes Resort Charleston SC

Looking at these beautiful wedding day photos on the beach, you’d never guess the whirlwind of events leading up to the moment Christina said “I do.”

  • The week of the wedding, the weather center forecasted a hurricane set to hit Charleston, SC—bringing a wave of uncertainty with it. From the moment the alerts came in, our Beauty Asylum (BA) admin team stayed in close communication with Christina, keeping her updated on every shift in our travel plans and doing everything possible to ease the stress of the unknown.

Despite the unpredictable conditions, Christina remained gracious and calm—focused on what mattered most. Behind the scenes, our team worked around the clock, monitoring the storm’s path and adjusting logistics in real time. The night before the wedding, with safety top of mind, we postponed our Charlotte team’s drive until the storm passed. It was a calculated risk that required a 5:15 a.m. departure on wedding morning.

But Mother Nature had other plans.

  • Originally, we planned to arrive in Charleston the night before the wedding to prepare for an early morning start. But when forecasts confirmed the worst of the storm would hit that evening, we made the call to delay our Charlotte-based team’s drive until the weather cleared for safety.

The commute from Charlotte to Charleston typically takes about three hours. With a 9 a.m. start time, our team hit the road at 5:15 a.m., allowing extra time for any travel delays.

  • What we didn’t anticipate was just how severe the flooding would be. Charleston sits below sea level, and by the time we neared the city, major roadways were already under water. The interstate was blocked off completely, with police rerouting traffic. Every attempt to reroute led to more dead ends—back roads were also flooded and impassable.

  • Amidst the chaos, Beauty Asylum owner Jessica Lyness jumped into action. She immediately got on the phone with her artist team, walking them through updated DOT road maps to try to navigate a safe path. But the road closures kept changing in real time.

While the traveling crew followed other local drivers in search of a way in, Jessica simultaneously coordinated with our Charleston-based stylists, moving up their arrival times and adjusting the service schedule on the fly.

  • With transparent communication between our team, the bride, & the wedding planner, our Charleston-based hair and makeup artists jumped into action—working efficiently to keep the morning on track. Meanwhile, our Charlotte artists endured a grueling six-hour drive through storm-ravaged roads, ultimately arriving three hours behind schedule.

Despite the delays, their dedication never wavered. The moment they arrived, the Charlotte team immediately focused on Christina, ensuring her bridal look came together just as she had envisioned. Once her hair and makeup were perfected, they turned their attention to the bridal party—moving with care, precision, and calm under pressure.

  • In the end, our team wrapped services just 45 minutes behind the original timeline. And in a moment that felt almost cinematic, the clouds parted and golden sunshine poured over the beach as Christina walked down the aisle—ushering in a picture-perfect start to her new chapter.
